As we count the days till the end of 2019 we wanted to share some numbers from last year….
Machines: We have built 6 different compression molding machines, 4 injection molding machines, 3 plastic shredders, and 2 extrusion machines.
Independent Recycling Spaces: We have helped set up two plastic recycling workshops – one in Diani and one in Mathare. Both workshops are sustaining themselves independently, creating unique products while cleaning up their local environment.
Training and Education: We are proud to be community space, hosting workshops for for the wider plastic recycling community in Kenya. Since the beginning of 2019 in addition to the ISK community we have hosted Close the Gap, Engineers Without Borders, Carolina for Kibera, Braeburn Garden Estate, Delft University, Plastic Unwrapped, Precious Plastic LA, Kutembea na Tanzania, Flora and Fauna, Kilimani Project Foundation, Engineering Good, UNICEF Somalia, Mr. Green Africa, Futbol Mas, and Trashion amongst others.
Employment: We have provided part time local employment and much needed income to over 65 people.
Products: We have designed over 60 unique products most of which have gone into production or going to be launched early next year.
Plastic Collection: We have supported clean up drives on Diani Beach, Mt Kenya, the Massai Mara, Karurua Forest, Baringo and Mathare amongst others.
Recycling: We have recycled over 2 ton of discarded plastics into unique products. That is the equivalent of 800,000 bottle caps, 160,000 fast food container or 76,000 shampoo bottles!
Thanks so much for all your support this year – as we look forward to a cleaner, and greener 2020!
