Plastiki Rafiki is very excited to be working on a project with the Loisaba Conservancy in Laikipia to create recycled plastic and tetrapack flashers for their new Rhino Sanctuary. The fence has been designed to prevent movement of rhinos out of the sanctuary but allow free movement of most other animals, making it not as visible to wildlife as regular larger livestock fences.
The Rhino Flashers designed by ISK students are made out of 100% recycled plastic with the addition of used Tetrapack backing. They are designed to add contrast and movement in order to make the fence more visible and less likely to be damaged by wildlife running into it. The space between each post is 10 meters, requiring 4 flashers between each one – requiring a totaling 20,400 flashers for the entire 52 km of fence! Watch this space for more information in the coming months on this exciting initiative and how you can support this project – helping to protect rhinos while cleaning up the environment!
