Can you believe it? – we started in 2018 – same time this flame tree was planted (in fact, the sign used in the commemoration plaque was one of our first attempts at creating recycled plastic sheets).
Like the tree pictured, we have can not believe how fast we have grown! From one machine in the HS fabrication lab, being used by six students experimenting with recycled plastic collected from the school’s bins – Plastiki Rafiki is now a registered student-led CBO, which has set up 12 workshops around Kenya, built over 30 different plastic recycling machines, and designed over 300 different unique products using recycled plastic! Our goal was, and remains, to clean up our local environment and empower communities to earn a living through plastic recycling and creative product design.
